THE NEW SINS –  AN AWAKENING

An extract from preparation for  High Holy-Days

“The Fountain of Now”

על חטאים שבין אדם לבין המקום

On the sins between Man & God

  • FORGETTING TO CELEBRATE LIFE

New Approach: Focusing on Joy, Gratitude, Hope, daily Miracles

Question to Ask Yourself: Am I remembering to look at life with joy on a daily basis?

  • GIVING TOO MUCH ATTENTION – THE MOST SACRED SUBSTANCE IN US – TO THE LOWER            Allowing the cheaper, the convenient, the ordinary, the habitual, the unconscious to steal us               from ourselves.

New Approach: Devoting time to what nourishes us.

Question to Ask Yourself: Am I spending enough time on what nourishes my spirit?

  • UNWILLINGNESS TO FORGIVE OURSELVES- how can God forgive us if we do not.

New Approach: Loving and accepting ourselves ; Kabalat Atzmi as a start.

Question to Ask Yourself: Can I look at my mistakes as merely “missing the mark”, and

accept that this is part of the way we learn, grow and move on?

  • FEAR OF REALIZING AND FULFILLING OUR GIFTS AND FULL POTENTIAL

New Approach: Awareness of our gifts and potential and realizing they are to help us

fulfill the mission of our souls

Question to Ask Yourself: How am I holding myself back, and hiding my light?

  • COMPARING OURSELVES TO OTHERS

New Approach: Realizing we are unique, with our own unique mission. Question to Ask Yourself: Can I compare myself to where I want to be in fulfilling my                                       own mission and goals?

  • FOCUSING ON GETTING RECOGNITION AND ENERGY FROM OTHERS

New Approach: Going to our souls, where we can receive it freely and directly, rather                                     than relying on those who “know better.”

Question to Ask Yourself: Am I spending quiet time listening to my soul as to what I                                       should do and be?

  • UNWILLINGNESS TO EXPERIENCE THE DIVINE

New Approach: Talking to God, listening to the Silence, being longer with “not knowing”

Question to Ask Yourself: Am I sitting 10 minutes a day? Beginning and ending the day                                                talking to God?

  • WORSHIPPING FALSE IMAGES

Such as fame, success, wealth, power

New Approach: Focusing on what serves the mission of our souls

Question to Ask Yourself: What am I doing to fulfill the mission of my soul?

  • WANTING TO BE PERFECT, the A+ Person

New Approach: Realizing we are just as we’re supposed to be, in God’s perfect image

Question to Ask Ourselves: Can I let imperfection be a part of me?

  • NEEDING TO CONTROL EVERYTHING

Fixating on certain outcomes, discounting the process.

New Approach: The best outcome is our Soul’s idea, not our ego’s. Question to Ask Ourselves: Can I release control and let things unfold, leaving                                                    something for God?

  • RELUCTANCE TO ASK FOR HELP

New Approach: Realizing we are not alone; we’re all connected; we can turn to God and others.

Question to Ask Ourselves: When I’m stuck, do I suffer alone?  Am I too proud to ask for help?
